Biographical Info
Elder Larry Matthews is a third-generation Apostolic believer and Associate Pastor of the Christ Gospel Church “Love Center” of Whitesboro, NJ. Elder Larry Matthews is the son of the late Elder Milton Matthews and Evangelist Mattie Mae Matthews, and the grandson of the late Pastor Willie Davis.
He was baptized at the age of 10 at Christ Gospel Church, George and Anna Streets and filled with the precious gift of the Holy Ghost at the age of 17 at Tabernacle Church of Christ in Pleasantville where his father Elder Milton Matthews was the Pastor. He was later led to join Holy Temple Church of Christ in Whitesboro under the leadership of his grandfather Pastor Willie Davis. At the age of 26, Larry answered the call of the Lord and entered a life of ministry.
After many years of serving at Holy Temple, Elder Matthews was led of the Lord to join Christ Gospel Church, under the leadership of Bishop Edgar D. Robinson, Jr. where he continues to thrive. A multi-talented, gifted and anointed servant, Elder Matthews is involved in many ministries. His service has included, Choir Director, Church Trustee, Men’s Ministry President and Sunday School teacher, but greatest of all, a Child of our Most High God! In addition to being a preacher and teacher, Pastor Matthews is also an anointed singer and praise leader. He combines his passion for music with his preaching and teaching ministry. He serves the Lord with gladness and with excellence.
Through the years, Pastor Matthews has also served in many capacities in the New Jersey District Council. An astute bible student, his studies include Aenon Bible College. Pastor Matthews was ordained in 2017 by Bishop Edgar D. Robinson, Jr. of the New Jersey District Council of the Pentecostal Assemblies of the World, Inc. He serves as Associate Pastor of the Christ Gospel Church “Love Center”, where he continues to serve and assist the people of God to be all that God has called them to be. A man of tremendous faith and conviction, he is a blessing to the Love Center ministry.
Pastor Matthews is blessed to be married for 47 years to Missionary Melody Matthews. He is the proud father of 4 children, 6 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. God has been faithful! He was blessed to work for Atlantic Electric Co. for over 45 years. He enjoys fishing, cooking, traveling and family time.
His favorite scripture is John 10:10, The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly. Pastor Matthews is a living witness to God’s abundant life.
